Did you know that more than 80% of show dogs are handled by their owners? To celebrate the dedication and enthusiasm of owner-handler exhibitors like you, the American Kennel Club has created the new AKC Owner-Handler Series for you and your dogs! This non-titling competition held at select dog shows across the country launches this year and you are invited to participate! The American Kennel Club and the Ann Arbor Kennel Club, Inc., in your area will be hosting an AKC Owner-Handler Series event at:
Ann Arbor Kennel Club, Inc.
Saturday, July 7, 2012
Monroe County Fairgrounds, Monroe, MI
Entries close on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. To enter this show visit show superintendent MB-F. Dogs must be declared Owner-Handler eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form.
The AKC Owner-Handler Series includes Breed, Group & Best in Show competitions. It is offered for all owner-handled dogs & bitches (including Winners Dog and Winners Bitch) exhibited in the Best of Breed class. The competition will be conducted following Best of Breed judging in each breed ring. All Owner-Handlers – owners who present their own dogs and are not professional handlers – are eligible and encouraged to participate.
The top-ranked dogs from the AKC Owner-Handler Series will be posted on www.akc.org and the Top 10 Owner-Handled dogs of each breed and variety will be invited to compete at an "end of year" competition show. Rankings of the dogs competing in the series will be compiled based on the Best of Breed, Group and Best in Show placements in this specific series competition. For more information on points and judging procedures visit www.akc.org/ohs.
*Professional handlers, assistants and household members of current professional handlers are not eligible to own or present dogs in this competition. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers' organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay.
We'd love to hear from you about the AKC Owner-Handler Series. Please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions, your club would like to host a series event or would like to offer feedback after the event regarding your owner-handler series experience.
